Preface

Herein, the encounters of believers with the Risen Lord  as recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts are woven together in chronological sequence to educe the full story of the 40 days following Jesus’ Crucifixion.

During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.  (Acts 1:3 NLT)

As we strove to sequence the events in these New Testament books, we were beset with some difficulties.

1. We do not have the original documents

written by the early Christians.  Our present-day Bibles are excellent, but the translators who prepared them for us worked from numerous copies of copies of the original documents.  Fortunately, these copies agree in most respects.

2. However, often, just one word like “before” or “after” or “next” influenced our comprehension of these books.  So, it’s easy to see why you might think we have some events in the wrong order.

Despite these problems, it is instructive to weave the Bible passages concerning encounters with the Risen Lord into a single, sequential narrative.
